Junior Bears still unbeaten

The Mammoth Spring junior Bears continued their un-spoiled run through the 2008-09 basketball season with a big 48-16 win over Viola Feb. 3 at home.

The victory improves Mammoth Spring's mark to 26-0, 9-0 in 1A-2 North play.

The junior Bears opened the contest on a 20-0 run and never paused to look back. Mammoth Spring held a 38-7 lead at the half and 48-12 after three periods of play.

Wayne Coffey scored 18 points to lead Mammoth Spring.

Austin Hite scored 11 points and grabbed nine boards. Houston Cooper tallied nine points and handed out four assists, while Garrett Wooldridge had six steals and five assists for the junior Bears.

The junior Bears overpowered Cave City 50-16 at home Feb. 2.

Mammoth Spring led 15-2 after the first period and 32-9 at the half.

Wooldridge had 19 points and six boards, while Coffey and Matt Turnbough added eight points apiece.

Tyler Poulette paced the junior Cavemen with six points.

In junior girls' action, Mammoth Spring knocked off Cave City 27-16.

The junior Lady Bears (13-12) were up 17-11 after three and then outscored Cave City 10-5 in the fourth to seal the win.

Jamie Bellows scored 13 points to led Mammoth Spring, while Kaitlyn Haney followed with nine.

The junior Cavewomen were led by Cheyenne Martin's six points.
