The Viola Lady Longhorns, ranked number five in Class 1A hoops, wrapped up the 1A-2 North Conference championship with a 43-28 victory over the Mammoth Spring Lady Bears Feb. 3 at Mammoth Spring.
The win improves Viola's mark to 9-1 in the conference, one game in front of the Calico Rock Lady Pirates, who were upset by Hillcrest the night before.
In the Lady Longhorns' win over Mammoth Spring, the Lady Horns climbed in front 8-6 after one, held on to lead 18-12 at intermission and extended that to a 35-23 advantage after three.
Chasidy Hutson paced Viola with 14 points. Elisabeth Collins added seven. Leslie Barker and Taylor Griggs logged six points apiece for the Lady Longhorns.
Sierra Smoot finished with 10 points for the Lady Bears, with Jessy Jo Vest logging eight points.
In the boys' matchup, Mammoth Spring (19-8, 7-2) topped Viola (6-4 in conference) 42-38.
The Bears were up 7-5 after one, but the Longhorns went on an 18-10 run to move in front 23-17 at the break.
In the third, Mammoth Spring outscored Viola 12-8 to pull within two, 31-29, after three.
Trevor Vincent led the Bears with 14 points, while Caleb Brown logged 12 points. Seth Godwin had 11 points, five assists and four steals.
Jackson Rains led Viola with 14 points. Jesse Shrable busted three treys to end the night with nine points for the Horns.
The Lady Longhorns notched their 20th win of the year Feb. 6 by blasting the Shirley Lady Blue Devils 49-30.
Viola (20-3) led 9-3 after the first period, 30-10 at the half and 39-18 after three.
Barker led the Lady Horns with 14 points. Hutson added 10 and Collins nine.
In boys' action, Viola (14-11) fell to the Blue Devils 54-45.
Shrable scored nine points to lead Viola.
