The Melbourne Bearkatz put the finishing touches on their 12-0 run through the 2-2A Conference's regular season with a 54-46 win at Cotter Feb. 9.

The Katz (29-4) led 14-7 after the first period but Cotter rallied to pull within five, 25-20 at the half. Melbourne then went on a 12-4 burst to open the third and put the game out of reach for the Warriors.

Spencer Caraway led the charge with 21 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. Chase Massey finished with 12 and Lee Lewis added eight. Kody Caraway and Dalton Grigg logged three points each. Derek Baird and Abram Qualls tallied two points apiece.

The Lady Bearkatz, also champions in 2-2A play, opened the night with a 47-30 win over the Lady Warriors.

Melbourne (29-4, 11-1) held a 7-4 advantage after the first period, but outscored Cotter 16-2 in the second to move ahead 23-6 at intermission.

Sara Adams paced the Lady Katz with 16 points. Kenzi Gillihan and Amanda Treat followed with nine points each. Kaylee Ables finished with five points and Tori Taylor had four. Maggie Caraway and Emily Carroll logged two points each.

The Katz, ranked second in Class 2A, ended the regular season with a 69-48 victory over Calico Rock (11-17) Feb. 13 at Harold Ray Jeffery Gymnasium.

Melbourne led 13-8 after one, but the Pirates pulled ahead 28-27 at the break. Then the Bearkatz went on a 19-8 run in the third to grab control.

Spencer Caraway tallied 19 points for Melbourne, while Massey had 17, Lewis 12 and Grigg 11.

Sam Nave scored 14 points to pace the Pirates, while Brayden McCurley finished with 12.

In girls' action, Calico Rock (25-4) avenged a loss to Melbourne in the finals of the Izard County Tournament with a 49-39 victory over the Lady Katz to start the evening.

The Lady Pirates led 13-12 after one, 32-16 at the half and 39-18 after three.

Hannah Wright paved the way for Calico Rock with 11 points, while Taylor Cox added 10.

Maggie Caraway scored 10 to lead Melbourne.
