Oregon County man charged with assault

Thursday, February 19, 2009

A rural Oregon County man has been charged with assault after what appears to be a domestic dispute at a residence on AA Highway.

Oregon County Sheriff George Underwood said he received a call at 5 a.m., Feb. 11 from a male subject claiming a man had shocked him with some type of shocking device.

The owner of the residence Duane Dawson, 52, had no evidence of injury to him, however, Paul Konrad, 39, who had been living with him, had numerous ligature or burn marks over the majority of his body. Dawson also claimed he had been shocked.

Underwood said both men were read their Miranda rights and Konrad agreed to talk and Dawson refused to talk.

Konrad stated he had awakened at approximately 5 a.m. and was watching television when Dawson came into the living room and started making sexual advances toward him. Konrad stated when he refused to comply with Dawson's demands he began shocking him, forcing him on the floor, pinning him down and shocking him over the entirety of his body with some sort of shocking device.

Konrad further stated after he was shocked about 30 times Dawson jumped off him and ran out of the house at which time Konrad called the police. Dawson stated Konrad shocked him first several times until he took the device away from him and then began shocking him.

The sheriff said neither man would divulge the type of shocking device or produce it.

Dawson was charged with assault and is scheduled to be in Oregon County Court Feb. 26.
