Lady Cats work overtime against Eminence

Thursday, February 19, 2009

The Thayer Lady Bobcats rallied from a halftime deficit to knock off the Eminence Lady Redwings 56-50 in overtime Feb. 12 in Thayer.

Thayer led by a single point after the first period, thanks to a late 3-pointer, but the Lady Redwings climbed on top by two points at the half.

The second half was a good, old-fashioned battle between Thayer's senior guard Micah Stevens and the Lady Redwings' freshman flash, Kelsey Williams.

Stevens led all scorers with a game-high 25 points for Thayer, while Williams countered with 21 points for Eminence.

The Lady Bobcats managed to pull ahead 37-35 at the end of three periods of play.

Thayer was dealt a blow, when Kaley Hebert (10 points) was whistled for her fifth foul and was forced to sit.

Thayer had a chance to go on top in the waning seconds of regulation, but a missed shot at the buzzer sent the game to overtime tied at 43-all.

In the extra period, the Lady Cats got rolling and outscored Eminence 13-7 in OT to wind up with a tough 56-50 victory over the Lady Redwings.
