Alma B. Thompson was born Oct. 24, 1938, the daughter of the late Sheldon Brawley and Zona Johnson Brawley in Alton, Mo. She died Feb. 10, 2009, in Provena St. Joseph Medical Center at Joliet, Ill., at the age of 70.
She was united in marriage to Robert B. Thompson Sr. on Oct. 29, 1955, in Greer, Mo., by Rev. Clarence Dodson, uncle of the groom, officiating.
She was employed with the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant in Elmwood, Ill., for seven years. She was member of the Free Will Baptist Church in West Plains, Mo.
She is survived by: her husband of 53 years, Robert Thompson Sr. of Morris, Ill.; one daughter, Patricia Thompson of Morris, Ill.; two sons, Robert Thompson and wife, Candy of Coal City, Ill., and Donald Cobb of Channahon, Ill.; three grandchildren, Tiffany Thompson-Unland and husband, Jeff, Eric Thompson and Tonya Coleman and husband, PFC Robert Coleman; four great-grandsons; five brothers, Clifford Bawley and wife, Dorothy of Springfield, Mo., Ralph Brawley and wife, Pat of Phillipsburg, Mo., Sheldon Brawley Jr. and wife, Beverly of Conway, Mo., Duane Brawley and wife, Donna of Alton, Mo., and Dale Brawley and wife, Jane of Gay, Ga.; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Keith Brawley.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Rev. David Brawley officiating. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home of Thayer, Mo.
