Cavemen stopped in Flippin

The Cave City Cavemen's season came to a close one step short of the regional tournament with a loss in the quarter-final round of the 3A-1 East District Tournament at Bobcat Country in Flippin.

The sixth-seeded squad from Cave City (4-19) fell to the third-seeded Valley Springs Tigers 37-29.

Valley Springs led 14-4 after the first period and 20-11 at the half.

Seth Foreman paced Cave City with 11 points.

Dalton Bell and Brandon Gillihan finished with six points each.

Zac Smith added four and Jordon Croft two.

The Cavemen advanced to the second round with a tight 48-40 victory over the Marshall Bobcats Feb. 16.

Cave City outscored Marshall 17-10 in the fourth period to ice the contest.

Smith led the way with 15 points and eight boards.

Bell added 12 points.

Dexter Huckabee and Gillihan logged six points each for the Cavemen. Foreman had four points in the game.

John Rhoades had three and Paden Day two for Cave City.
