Former Thayer resident and THS alumni Jerry Martin, was one of the featured guests recently at the West Plains civic centers Outdoor Adventures sportshow, sponsored in part by the Lions Club.
Martin has spent a big portion of his life in the great outdoors, hunting and fishing professionally for Bass Pro Shops Redhead Pro-Staff.
The Lions Club and Ozark Radio Network partnered with local and national businesses to present Martin, along with several other celebrities, as part of the Greater Ozark Regional Outdoor Adventures Sportshow.
Martin visited with guests, signed autographs, gave seminars with hunting tips and shared a video with his story about an elephant hunt, one of his most memorable hunting adventures.
Along with Martin was U.S. Shooting team member Haley Dunn, performances around the exhibit hall by Nashville recording artist Kevin Weldon and appearances by Miss Missouri and Miss Teen Missouri.
Entertainment by Elvis impersonator Billy Wade and a couple of the Rams cheerleaders made featured appearances.
"Louie" the Springfield Cardinals mascot was around the exhibit hall and Don Berry's Fishin' Radio Show gave demonstrations and lectures.
Awards were presented for the NWTF sanctioned turkey calling contest, while others enjoyed the 3D Archery shooting.
The National Guard sponsored a rock-climbing wall next to the stage used for live K-9 discipline demonstrations.
The exhibit floor was filled with products and services for hunting, fishing and outdoor adventures of all kinds.
