Effie L. Smith, 87, of Brookland, Ark., died Feb. 18, 2009, at the St. Bernard's Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born June 18, 1921, at Cave City, Ark., the daughter of Clarence and Sarah Goodman Shirley.
She was a homemaker and a member of the New Antioch Baptist Church located at Brookland.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Lushen L. Smith; one son, Timothy Smith; three brothers, Delmer Shirley, Elmer Shirley and John Shirley; and two sisters, Ruby Moody and Ida Mae Medlock.
Survivors include: two sons, Clarence J. Cooper of Jonesboro, and Robert Smith of Leavenworth, Kan.; one brother, Charles Shirley of St. Louis, Mo.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service was held Feb. 20 at the New Antioch Baptist Church located at Brookland, Ark. with Rev. Larry Ring and Rev. Jim Wells officiating.
A funeral service was held Feb. 21 at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Rev. Harold Russell and Rev. Larry Ring officiating. Burial followed in the Maxville Cemetery located north of Cave City with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
