Martin Edward Godwin was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Hartford, Ill., and died Feb. 21, 2009, in Mammoth Spring, Ark., at the age of 71.
He was united in marriage May 5, 1956, in Edwardsville, Ill., to Ruby Roberta Cathorall.
He owned and operated Mammoth Spring Tire Service for many years.
He was a member of the Evening Light Message Church.
He is survived by: his wife, Ruby of the home in Mammoth Spring; nine children, Brenda Smith, Brent Godwin and wife, Angela, Becky Quilhot and husband, Bill, Sherry Waller and husband, Paul, Steven Godwin and wife, Sheila, Philip Godwin and wife, Annette, Karen Crowe and husband, James, Sarah Graham and husband, Todd and Paula Johnson and husband Corey; 26 grandchildren and one unborn grandchild; six great-grandchildren and one unborn great-grandchild; one sister, Joyce Cox; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, William and Mary Godwin; one son, Joseph Godwin; one grandson, Erik Sims; two great-grandsons, William and Michael Stowell; two sisters, Maxine Hull and Edna Gossett.
Funeral services were held Feb. 23 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
