Ned C. Johnson was born March 25, 1921, the son of the late James Edward Johnson and Lola Mae Wheeler Johnson in Alton, Mo. He died Feb. 22, 2009, at Sara Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman, Neb., at the age of 87.
He was united in marriage Sept. 9, 1944, in Hardy, Ark., to Bertha Leona Prewitt.
Ned served his country in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and received his honorable discharge in 1945.
He worked most of his life as a finish carpenter and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include: his daughter, Marilyn Criger and husband, Kenneth of Nebraska; two sons, Perry Johnson of Montana and Bobby Johnson of Nevada; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers, James Johnson, Glen Johnson, Don Johnson and wife, Joann of Missouri and Phillip Paul Johnson of Texas; one sister, Jessie Mae Burkhead of Thayer; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Johnson of Alton; numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, James and Lola Mae Johnson; his wife, Bertha Leona Johnson; one son, Jerry Johnson; two brothers, Boyd Uel Johnson and Nolan "Bill" Johnson; and two sisters, Lucy Glee Johnson and Marian M. Evans.
Graveside services were held Feb. 25 in the Taylor Cemetery near Ravenden, Ark., with Pete Waits officiating. Burial followed in the Taylor Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
