Marjorie A. Smith, was born Jan. 6, 1913, at Ulysses, Kan., the daughter of the late Carl Moyer and Lena Barnes Moyer. She died Feb. 25, 2009, at Alton, Mo., at the age of 96.
She was united in marriage in 1963 at Johnson, Kan., to Leo "Buck" Smith, who preceded her in death July 25, 1983.
She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society and a retired beautician. She also worked in tax assessment in the state of Kansas for several years.
She was named the top bowler by the Thayer Bowling Lanes at the age of 85.
She is survived by: one son, Eddie Smith and wife, Sandy of Kansas; three daughters, Ella Pearl Kuehl and husband, Ernie of Des Plaines, Ill., Carolyn Baker and husband, George of Alton, Mo., and Dorothy Deniger and husband, Tony of Kansas; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Carl and Lena Moyer; her husband, Leo "Buck" Smith; one daughter, Linda Marvin; one grandson, Shane Smith; one brother, Aubrey Moyer; one sister, Mignon Hammond; and an infant sister, Elizabeth.
Funeral services were held Feb. 28 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Bro. Robert Wiggs officiating. Burial followed in the Thayer Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
