Graveside services for Russell Lester Fisher, 87, of West Plains, Mo., were held March 6, 2009, at the Baker Cemetery near Hardy, Ark., under the direction of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home of West Plains, Mo.
He died March 3, 2009, in Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Mo. He was born July 23, 1921, in Hermann, Mo., the son of Theodore Alfred and Elizabeth Speckhaus Fisher.
Mr. Fisher was married to Pauline Kleckler who preceded him in death on May 3, 1985. He was married at Hardy, Ark., to Betty Jean Davis Leyland who preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2003.
He was a veteran having served with the United States Marines during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He attended the Kansas City Police Academy, retiring after 25 years of service as a Kansas City policeman.
He is survived by: his son, Scott Fisher and wife Carole of Ft. White, Fla.; a niece, Sharon Heidbreder of Carmichael, Calif.; step-children, John Leland and wife Kay, of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dan Leyland and wife Phyllis of Sparta, Mo., Helen Baird and husband Casus, of West Plains, Mo. and Dave Leyland and wife, Cindy of Kansas City, Mo.; several step-grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; wives; one sister; and one brother.
