Bernice Olive Godwin was born Feb. 5, 1915, in Viola, Ark. She died March 2, 2009, in DeSoto, Texas. She was the daughter of of the late William R. Batterton and Mabel E. Cooper Batterton.
She was united in marriage to Lester Sutton. Later in life, she married Norman Godwin.
Survivors include: her daughter, Marceline Havens of Midlothian, Texas; her grandson, Michael Havens and wife Ursula of Irving, Texas; a granddaughter, Teresa Chupp of Budapest, Hungary; 2 great-grandchildren; her sister, Clara Brown of Viola; a brother, Oral Batterton of Desloge, Mo., and numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husbands; eight of her siblings, Alta, Loyd, Frank, Lottie, Owen, Lorene, Inez and Paul Gene.
There was a memorial service on Monday, March 9 at the Cox Blevins Chapel in Salem. Arrangements were under the direction of the Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice.
