Bill Johnston, 72, of Evening Shade, Ark., died March 1, 2009, at the Cave City Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Missouri, the son of Amel and Lucinda Grissom Johnston.
He was a United States Army veteran having served in the Korean conflict. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include: his wife, Sue Johnston of the home; two sisters, Tilly Gainey of Perry, Fla., and Maggie Phipps of Searcy, Ark.; several nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; a brother, Auther Johnston; and a sister, Augusta Watkins.
Funeral services were held March 4 at the Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with Bro. Alvin Wiles and Bro. Joe Jackson officiating. Burial followed in the Bear Creek Cemetery located west of Evening Shade with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers were Phillip Jackson, Danny Malone, Harold Macklin, Robbie Thomas, Jason Bickford and Brian Sherrod.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Thomas, Melvin Williams and Edward Sherrod.
