ALTON -- An Alton man, Donie E. Garrison, 47, was arrested and charged Feb. 27 with burglary and assault by Alton Police Chief Rusty Warren.
The following information is from a probable cause statement from Oregon County Prosecuting Attorney Fred O'Neill. Warren said he was called to a wreck on Market Street in Alton. When he arrived a vehicle belonging to Garrison was in the ditch but no one was around. Warren completed the accident report and had the vehicle towed.
Later, Warren received a call from Linda Tillman who lives on 403 Carhart Street in Alton, saying Garrison had kicked her door in. When Warren arrived at the Tillman residence Tillman told him Garrison was going out the back door. Warren ran to the back of the house and could not find him. As Warren ran around the north side of the house he saw Garrison headed toward the back of the house.
Warren and Oregon County Chief Deputy Eric King started searching in the brush around the house for Garrison. The officers then observed Garrison running a block from the Tillman residence. When he got to the Guarding Angel Day Care, Garrison ran behind the back of the building. He stopped at a little building behind the daycare and had his back to Warren. The officer told him to put his hands up and turn around.
He was placed under arrest and deputy Eddie Johnson transported him to the Oregon County Sheriff's Office.
The statement further said Tillman told Warren she was afraid of him and that one of these days he was going to kill her. She said this is not the first time he has done something of this nature toward her. Tillman said Garrison has made statements several times that he was going to kill her to give her family something to cry about.
Tillman said the family was asleep when she heard a family member shout and she went into the living room and Garrison was standing there. She asked him how he got in and he said he kicked her back door down. He told her he had wrecked his car and he wanted her to help him get home. Tillman said she was afraid for the 10-month-old baby that was asleep in the room where he kicked the door in.
