Emmett Lawrence Fern, 97, of Sedalia, Mo., diedMarch 8, 2009, at the Four Season Living Center in Sedalia, Mo. He was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Thayer, Mo., the son of the late Peter Crawford Fern and Minti Belle (Rodgers) Fern. On Nov. 13, 1934, in Fulton County, Ark., he married Lillian Elizabeth Bell, who preceded him in death Aug. 6, 1998.
He was a farmer and cattleman for many years in the Thayer, Mo., area before his retirement. After retirement he renovated and resold houses.
Survivors include: a daughter, Eugenia Volkenant of Windsor, Mo.; two sons, John Fern, West Plains, Mo., and Carl Fern of Blackwell, Okla.; a brother, Roy Fern, Lincoln, Neb.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry; three sisters, and a brother.
Graveside services were March 11 at the Laurel Oak Cemetery, Windsor, with Rev. Gene Ekstrand officiating. The family received friends before the service at the Hadley Funeral Home in Windsor.
