Izard County Sheriff's Report

Thursday, March 26, 2009

A late night altercation at an apartment in Melbourne on March 17 led to charges and hospitalization of a Melbourne man. Deputies responded to a domestic violence call where the suspect, identified as Sean Christopher Savage, was found to be extremely intoxicated. Sheriff Tate Lawrence said that Savage is accused of beating an ex-girlfriend and shoving her young daughter. When the apartment manager responded, Savage attempted to attack the manager. The manager, in self defense and in defense of others, struck Savage, who refused to leave the complex as requested. Savage was transported by sheriff's deputies to the Community Medical Center in Calico Rock and was later transferred to a Little Rock hospital. Savage faces charges that include three counts of third degree domestic battery, each a class "A" misdemeanor; first degree assault, a class "A" misdemeanor; endangering the welfare of a minor in the second degree, a class "A" misdemeanor; and criminal trespass, a class "B" misdemeanor. Savage is on the run and has yet to be arrested.

According to Sheriff Lawrence, Savage has a lengthy arrest record on similar charges. In July of last year, Savage was charged with two counts of domestic battering in the third degree and obstructing governmental operations. In February 2009, Savage was again charged with criminal trespass, third degree battery, endangering the welfare of minor, third degree assault and obstructing governmental operations. Judge David E. Miller set bond for Savage in the amount of $5,000 cash.

In other sheriff's department activities, a 26-year-old Yellville man, Christopher Cody Tabler has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a class "A" misdemeanor and fleeing on foot, a class "C" misdemeanor. The March 11 incident took place in Calico following a reported fight. A deputy followed a suspect vehicle to a residence where Tabler exited his vehicle and ran on foot. A woman in the vehicle was arrested, but gave misleading information as to Tabler's identity. After seizing the vehicle, the owner of the vehicle, while trying to claim her vehicle, gave the true identity of the driver. According to Sheriff Lawrence, Tabler is in the Baxter County Jail on other charges awaiting transfer to the Arkansas Department of Correction.

In another incident of fleeing, Bobby Langston, of Melbourne has been charged with careless driving and fleeing in a vehicle. Deputies attempted to stop the pickup truck driven by Langston as they observed erratic driving in Melbourne the night of March 19. The chase continued to the Sylamore and Boswell areas until Sheriff Lawrence directed the chase be terminated for safety reasons. Langston turned himself in to the sheriff's office the following morning and was issued citations and a report to court date.

Dustin M. Baird, 21, of Melbourne, was arrested March 19 on charges of driving while intoxicated-drugs, operating a vehicle without license plates, operating a vehicle without insurance and failure to yield. Baird remains in the Izard County Detention Facility in lieu of $1,645 bond.
