On March 5, 2009, the Salem FFA Chapter attended the Arkansas Eastern District CDE contest. Nine teams attended the contest, five of which qualified for the State contest. The qualifying teams are as follows: Forestry- 2nd place: members are J.W. Blevins finishing 1st, Vaughn Richard finishing 6th, Jesse Turner finishing 19th, and Chase Steed. Agricultural Mechanics-4th place: members are Matthew Twilley finishing 6th, Gray Windham finishing 10th, Casey Anderson and Colt Shaver. Agricultural Electricity-6th place: members are Jon Goodson finishing 6th, Evan Palumbo finishing 11th, Brandon Moss and Cody Barnett. Farm Business Management-7th place: members are Roy Massey finishing 7th, Cory Arnold and Eric Langle. Agronomy- 8th place: members are Austin Williams, Jesse Romine, Sean Willis and Beau McBride. Teams that went to district but did not qualify for state are as follows: Livestock-9th place: members are Laci Long, Carson York, Amber Taylor, and Sarah Cochran. Dairy Foods- 9th place: members are Jesse Ables, Isaiah Townsend, and Shane VanDyk. Land-12th place: members are Dylan Smith, Madison Duff, Colin Smith, and Tyler Jackson. Poultry-24th place: members are Clint Ray, Colby Harber, and Anthony Romine. The State contests for Dairy Cattle, Meats, and Forestry are in Little Rock, May 1st. State contest for Agricultural Mechanics, Electricity, Farm Business Management, Agronomy, and Horse are in Fayetteville on April 17th.
June 2nd through the 4th, the Parliamentary procedure team and the Opening and Closing team will be attending the state leadership contest in Hot Springs. These two teams participated in both the sub-area and the district competition, which qualified them for state. The parliamentary procedure team placed 1st in both district and sub-area: members are Jesse Turner, Laci Long, Jon Goodson, Amber Taylor, Carson York, and Beau McBride. The opening and closing team placed 1st at sub-area and 2nd at district. Members are Colby Harber, Cory Arnold, Shane VanDyk, Anthony Romine, Cody Barnett, Colt Shaver, and Brandon Moss.
The annual FFA banquet has been scheduled for April 23rd. All members, their parents, and friends are welcome to attend.
