The Salem High School Beta Club is sponsoring a chili cook-off, and we want you to join us! The event is planned for Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. at the Salem High School football field.
If you would like to enter as a contestant, the entry fee is $10.00. Each contestant will need to provide his own heat source because electrical outlets are not available. Some contestants have mentioned that they are bringing portable propane grills or propane fish fryers. To enter, call Kim at 870 895 5921 or 870 291 8135. The deadline to enter is Wednesday, March 25, 2009. If a contestant enters to represent a business, we will make a sign for that contestant with the business name on it. We ask that contestants be set up by 5:30 p.m. Judging will take place, and we hope to be ready to serve at approximately 6:00 p.m. First place will win $100. We will also award prizes to second and third places.
According to Beta Club President Carson York, "Basically, we just want to bring the community together to enjoy an evening of great food, friendly competition, and good conversation. We are providing some entertainment, also. The SHS baseball team will be playing at 6:00 p.m. In addition, Jordan King will play the guitar and sing. Jarmey Sallee will also show his talent on the guitar. We have lined up a night full of fun, and we want everyone to enjoy it. Plus, we would like to raise enough money for a good scholarship."
Everyone is invited to join. We are offering all the chili you can eat for only $5.00. That includes the chili, a drink, and all the fixings. All proceeds go to the SHS Beta Club. Mark your calendars for April 2, 2009, at 6:00 p.m.
