Thomas Dexter Johnson, son of the late George Arnett Johnson and Vernie Caraway Johnson, was born April 29, 1957, in Batesville, Ark. He died March 24, 2009, in Melbourne, Ark., at the age of 51.
He was united in marriage to Imogene Scott on Aug. 28, 1987, in Jonesboro, Ark. At the time of his death, he was a self-employed truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by: his wife of 21 years, Imogene Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Dexter Johnson Jr and wife Jessi of Sage, Ark.; one stepson, Brian Scott and wife Erika of Sherwood, Ark.; one step-daughter, Angie Sutterfield and husband David of Jonesboro; one sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ronald Cheatham of Batesville; three brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Patsy Johnson of Jonesboro, Jeff and Anita Johnson of Jonesboro and Vann and Sheila Johnson of Melbourne; seven grandchildren, Gracie Johnson, Emma Scott, Elizabeth Scott, Alexius Foster, Ethan Foster, Noah Sutterfield and Arabella Sutterfield; an aunt, Mildred Moser of Melbourne; sisters-in-law, Linda Harris and Carol Walker both of Jonesboro and Sandra Ringle of San Diego, Calif.; three brothers-in-law, Darrell Jones and Ernie Walker both of Jonesboro and Dennis Jones of Cherokee Village; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service were held March 28 at the Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with David Jennings officiating. Burial was at Reeves Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne.
Pallbearers were Donnie Tate, Kevin Tate, Tony Cooper, Mark Jordan, Heath Harris and Ronald Cheatham.
Honorary pallbearers were Tim Engles and Trevor Harris.
