Lady Cougars sweep Black Rock

Thursday, April 9, 2009

The Izard County Lady Cougars ran their 1A-2 East record to 6-1 by sweeping a double-dip from the Black Rock Lady Zebras April 1.

Izard County won game one 6-3 and followed that with a 6-0 shutout in game two.

Sarah Taylor was brilliant as usual and the fireballing senior pitcher racked up back-to-back no-hitters against Black Rock.

In game one, Taylor struck out 13 of the 20 batters she faced, issuing just two walks in the game.

In game two, Taylor also walked two while striking out 13.

In the first game of the day, the Lady Cougars struck for four runs in the first inning and then held off a Black Rock rally to win by three runs.

Taylor went three-for-four at the plate in the first game, while Emily Crider was two-for-two at the dish.

In the nightcap, Taylor and Brittany Shrable (two RBIs) each went two-for-three.
