Jewell Dean McCradic, Jr., was born March 22, 1941, the son of Jewell Dean McCradic Sr. and Goldie Marie Collins McCradic. He died April 4, 2009, in Mammoth spring, Ark., at the age of 68.
He was married in 1962 at Rawlins, Wyo., to Merle VanZandt. He was married on Oct. 4, 1985, at Mammoth Spring, Ark., to Veda Traw.
He served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Army for 22 years. In 1988 the McCradic family opened Fred's Fish House in Mammoth Spring. He was a strong supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and was a grandpa for the Foster Grandparent Program in Mammoth Spring Elementary School.
He was a Christian and attended First Baptist Church in Mammoth Spring.
He is survived by his wife, Veda McCradic of the home in Mammoth Spring; four children, Don McCradic and wife, Kris of Bandon, Ore., and Janalin Taylor and husband, Martin, of Iola, Kan., Paula Smith and husband Austin of Mammoth Spring and Jamie McCradic and wife, Cindy of Mammoth Spring; seven grandchildren, Kylie, Toni and Brett Taylor of Iola, Kan., A.J. and Aaron Smith of Mammoth Spring and Breanna and Derek McCradic of Mammoth Spring; two brothers, Kenneth McCradic and wife, Gina of Aurora, Ill., and Bill McCradic of DeWitt, Ark.; one sister, Janice Rogers and husband Bob of West Plains, Mo.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James "Jim" McCradic and one special nephew, Jesse McCradic.
Funeral services were held April 7 in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Mo., with Pastor Jimmy Lemonds officiating. Burial followed in the Flint Cemetery at Wirth, Ark., with arrangements under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home of Thayer.
