Richard William Harris, 78, of Salem, Ark., son of the late John William and Bevvie M. (Hooper) Harris, was born on Jan. 18, 1931, in Alton, Ill. He died April 4, 2009, at the Southfork River Therapy and Living Center in Salem.
Richard spent his working years as owner/manager of a heating and air conditioning business. He was a member of the Violet Hill Assembly of God Church in Violet Hill, Ark.
He is survived by: two sons, Richard D. Harris (Mary) of Charleston, Ill., and Jerry L. Harris (Mary Helen) of Godfrey, Ill.; five daughters, Beverly Booker of Cottage Hills, Ill., Audrey Richardson of Bethalto, Ill., Gwendolyn Harris of Ridgecrest, California, Joan Dunstan of Napa, Idaho and Jennifer Baker (Gregory) of Evans, Georgia; three brothers, John D. Harris (Mary) of Champaign, Ill., Kenneth Harris of Alton, Ill., and Terry Harris (Ivana) of Rolla, Mo.; two sisters, Verda Maul of Alton, Ill., and Carol Harris of Woodriver, Ill.; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: his parentss; one brother Bobby Alan Harris; one sister Betty Ealey; and one granddaughter Susan Biggs.
A memorial service was held April 8 at the Violet Hill Assembly of God Church in Violet Hill, Ark., with Bro. Leon Morehead officiating. Arrangements by Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, Ark.
