Horseshoe Bend's Dogwood Days annual festival will be held April 17 and 18. A full slate of entertainment and activities will attract young and old alike to the festival. Sponsored by the Horseshoe Bend Chamber of Commerce, this year's Friday and Saturday event will feature music, food, crafts, children's games, entertainment and much more.
On Friday, April 17, vendors will set up in the morning and activities are planned from noon until 6 p.m. Kid's games include balloon toss at noon, sack races at 4 p.m and more. The United Methodist Women's Quilt Show and Tea will be held at the church from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A street dance, sack races at 4 p.m. and more. A street dance will be held at the lower Diamond B. Mall beginning at 5:30 p.m. and Elvis (Butch Dicus) will perform at the Horseshoe Bend Theatre at 6 p.m.
Saturday events begin early with the Dogwood Days Bass Tournament at Boxhound Marina on Crown Lake beginning at 7 a.m. Gates open at 6 a.m.
This event is sponsored by the Tri-County Board of Realtors. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place and Big Bass optional entry.
The Horseshoe Bend Dogwood Days Three-Person Scramble begins at the golf course at Turkey Mountain at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Registration is at 8 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts. Following the tournament, prizes will be awarded at the lower Diamond B Mall at approximately 2 p.m. For more information call the ProShop at 870-670-4496. In the mall area gazebo, a Pet Parade is planned for 9 a.m. and featured at the Horseshoe Bend Airport from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is the Young Eagles plane ride. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the airport.
Entertainment planned so far features the Dooley Family Singers at 1 p.m. Square Dancers are slated for entertainment at 3 p.m. as well. Kid's games include Quarters in the Haystack at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Duck Pond all day, and Balloon Toss at noon. At 2:30 p.m. a skydiving demonstration by Robert Jester will featured a landing adjacent to the mall.
Music in the Mountain ntains will perform at the Horseshoe Bend Theater beginning at 6 p.m.
The Strawberry River Art Association will hold its annual members only art show on April 17, 18 and 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hillhigh Resort.
More activities and events are planned. Vendors are encouraged to fill out an application for booth space, which is free this year. Vendors need to remain throughout the day Saturday as well, to accommodate visitors and golf tournament participators who will be at the mall for prize presentations.
