Halter to discuss lottery

Thursday, April 23, 2009

Lieutenant Governor Bill Halter will be coming to Sharp County to speak on the new Arkansas Lottery and other issues. The Lt. Governor will speak at a community dinner, sponsored by the Sharp County Democratic Party and Sharp County Democratic Women.

The event will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 12, at the North Golf Course in Cherokee Village.

Lt. Gov. Halter wrote Amendment 3 to the Arkansas Constitution, commonly known as the HOPE for Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. Amendment 3 was overwhelmingly approved by the voters of Arkansas during the 2008 elections and was implemented by the Arkansas Legislature on March 25. With the recent legislative approval, Arkansas became the only state to have a lottery where all proceeds are dedicated exclusively for educational scholarships.

Lt. Gov. Halter is expected to speak about the implementation of the newly established lottery and respond to any questions that the people of Sharp County may have. Business owners who are interested in participating in the lottery are encouraged to attend

While the Lt. Governor's visit is being sponsored by the Sharp County Democrats, it is not a political event and is open to the public. Because of space, the seating for this event is limited to only 150 persons. Admission is free but advance tickets are required. For information about free advance tickets to this dinner, call one of the following phone numbers: 870-856-6161, 501-230-0111 or 870-307-1988.
