Horns perfect in 1A-2 West

Trey Killian was in control on the hill, but the Viola Longhorns remained in control of the 1A-2 West Conference race April 16.

Killian struck out 20 Longhorn batters and gave up just four hits, but Viola still managed to slide past the homestanding Norfork Panthers 5-1.

The victory gives the Horns the conference crown with a perfect 10-0 mark.

Jacob Payne earned the win for Viola.

He allowed five hits, while walking two and striking out four.

Jordan Cotter had two hits and an RBI for Viola, while Dylan Holestine added a hit and two ribbies.

Blain Sanders notched a hit and drove in one for the conference champs from Viola.

The Horns had to work triple-time April 14, winning three games in 1A-2 West play at Viola City Park.

In the first game of the day, the Longhorns knocked off Calico Rock 9-0.

Cotter earned the win, allowing six hits, giving up a walk and striking out five in the contest.

Sanders went three-for-three at the dish.

Matt Prinner was three-for-five with an RBI.

Dolan Johnson had two hits and two RBIs.

Jacob Luther also drove in two runs.

Holstine had a hit and an RBI and Blake Baumunk drove in a run for the Longhorns.

In the second game of the day, Viola blasted Timbo 16-0.

Baumunk tossed a no-hitter in the three-inning contest, striking out six in the game.

Baumunk was two-for-two at the plate and drove in two runs.

Luther also had two RBIs for the Horns.

Prinner, Jesse Shrable, Cotter, Tyler Ochoa, Zane Kunz and Levi Fleming also drove in runs.

In the final game, Viola eased to a 12-2 win over the Timbo Tigers.

Kunz picked up the win, working the first three innings.

He allowed two runs on two hits and three walks, while striking out five in the game.

Luther pitched the final inning, walking two and fanning two.
