Clyde M. Smith, 86, of Midland, Texas died April 22, 2009, at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was born April 6, 1923, in Lehigh, Okla.
He married Mildred Wallis on May 23, 1947, in Borger, Texas.
Clyde served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank driver in Africa and Italy. He worked as an electrical engineer and worked for General Electric in Dallas and then later worked and served as a vice-president of Shermco Industries, also in Dallas. He retired in 1987 and he and his wife moved to Midland.
He is survived by: his wife, Mildred Smith of Midland; one daughter, Krista Blakley of Kyle, Texas; one son, Dennis Smith of Whitesboro, Texas; six grandchildren; two brothers, Tuffy Smith and Buster Smith both of Salem, Ark.; four sisters, Almeta Blue of Granbury, Texas, Vanita Harris and Loreta Davis both of Salem, and Lee Stephens of Lake Montezuma, Ariz.
Funeral services were held April 24 at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, with Rev. Ty Morris and Rev. Eddie Blakley, officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Funeral Home and Crematory of Midland.
