Free night of racing action at WPMS

Thursday, May 14, 2009

The grand stand gates will be open free on May 21 at West Plains Motor Speedway for the practice night of the Show-Me 100 event.

The Super Stars of Dirt will be practicing as well as the Outlaw Modifieds, as they test and tune for their share of the $135,000 purse.

The Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Sanctioned event will start qualifying on May 22 and the finals will be May 23.

According to West Plains Motor Speedway owner Billie Gibson, the purpose of the free night is to expose area residents to professional racers that perform on dirt tracks. The sight of the NASCAR style haulers are impressive and there will be opportunities to tour the pits on the mornings of May 22-23.

There will be a barbecue with the drivers and crews and the dinner is $7.50 a person.

The West Plains Motor Speedway is a favorite of the pros and the Show-Me 100 is a premier event for the Lucas Tour.

Video crews will be on hand to record the excitiment for airing on ESPN and the Speed Channel.

On Friday morning at 10 a.m., the top-10 points drivers will be interviewed by track announcer and KHOM 100.9 Real Country racing host Tom Harris at the carport near the Blue Tech Building for a two-hour live remote.

This is a giant event with national implications and free Thursday is an opportunity to see it up close.
