Infant overdosed

Thursday, May 14, 2009

A five week old infant has been released from Children's Hospital in Little Rock after being treated for a morphine overdose that occurred on May 4. The drug was administered by the child's parent.

May 4, the infant was treated at Fulton County Hospital at Salem and then transported to Children's.

Sharp County Detective Mark Counts was contacted by Fulton County Police Chief Albert Roork regarding the incident because the parents reside in Cherokee Village.

Counts said that the hospital is administering Narcan to the infant. This drug is commonly used to reverse the effects of other narcotics. The infant was released May 7 to Department of Human Services custody. The investigation into the overdose continues.
