Teens charged in keying

Thursday, May 21, 2009

Highland Police Chief Bea Sharp announces the arrest of two Highland High School juveniles following an incident that occurred on April 23 in the Highland High School parking lot.

A staff member reported to the Highland Police Department that six vehicles parked in a row on the east side of the building had been keyed. The incident was recorded on two of the school's security cameras and the staff identified the students.

Both suspects gave reports after being read their Miranda rights and having guardians present detailing their involvement in the incident. The damage to the vehicles occurred during a P.E. class.

Suspect one said he scratched the vehicles with a piece of asphalt for no apparent reason. The second suspect said he noticed the scratches during one of the laps around the parking lot and followed the scratch lines with his finger but did not admit to making any marks.
