Dynamic duo to hit Grin Iron Classic
They teamed up for one of the most memorable plays in the history of Thayer High School football.
And now Jacob Eckman and Lance Schneider will have one more opportunity to take to the football field.
The All-State standouts from Thayer will be members of the East All-Stars in the eighth annual Sertoma Grin Iron Classic, scheduled for June 5 at Plaster Sports Complex on the Missouri State University campus in Springfield.
This annual football game for Southwest Missouri has grown into a tradition for graduated seniors and their families, celebrating the final football game in students' high school careers.
Eckman and Schneider helped lead the Thayer Bobcats to back-to-back runner-up finishes in the Class 1 Show-Me Bowl the past two seasons.
And this year, Eckman hit Schneider with an incredible 62-yard TD pass as time expired in regulation to send the championship game to overtime.
The Grin Iron Classic (GIC) serves as a benefit for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a mobile dental clinic for at-risk kids who have no access to care.
The 2009 GIC will feature over 80 athletes from Southwest Missouri, coached by a committed team selected throughout the Southwest Missouri High School Football Coaches Association.
The McDonald's halftime show, cheerleaders from Elite Cheer & Dance and activities for children are just a few of the activities planned for the event and the expected 4,000 fans that will be in attendance.
In its first seven years, the GIC has provided over $220,000 in support of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile.
Since July 2002, the "Tooth Truck" has helped over 7,600 children with nearly $5 million in dental treatment through almost 22,000 dental appointments.
The annual operating budget of the "Tooth Truck" exceeds $550,000.
