The 2009 Fulton County Relay For Life is Friday, May 29 at Greyhound Stadium. "Relay For Life is a family event with food, fun and games; it's a time for us to celebrate, remember and to fight back. This year's theme is Rooting For A Cure," so come help us be a winning team!" a spokesperson said.
Schedule of events: 5 p.m. -- Survivor party starts. All survivors and a friend is encouraged to come for food and prizes.
5:30-6 p.m. -- Music from Rick Pate and his "Ridin' on Faith" Cowboy Church group.
6 p.m. -- "Relay Silent Auction" begins, lots of great items, all proceeds go to Relay.
6 p.m. -- 2009 Relay officially begins with introduction of survivors, care givers, sponsors, teams and a scholarship presentation, as always survivors get everyone started with the first lap.
6 p.m. -- Jake Taylor shows off his Dance moves.
7 p.m. -- Music from Ron Plumlee and Friends.
7:45 p.m. -- 11-year-old Fulton County 4-H member Miss Brooklyn Abney shares her winning speech, followed by Senior Lock-In Womanless Beauty Contest first runner-up "Candy" who will have "his beautiful lengths cut for a cancer patient in Arkansas."
8 p.m. -- More music with Ron and Friends.
8:45 p.m. -- "Reflections of Loved Ones" video begins as everyone gathers together for the "Luminaire Ceremony." The Luminaire Ceremony is a time to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer and to remember loved ones lost to the disease. Luminaries are $5 and can be purchased prior to Relay, which helps everyone to be better prepared. Forms can be picked up at Bank of Salem or the County Clerk's office. They can also be purchased from 5-8 p.m. at Relay-Reflections of Loved Ones" video follows.
9:45-10:30 Relay Silent: auction ends. Angen Griggs sings, followed by Viola Assembly Youth Group.
Auction winners will be announced.
10:30 p.m. -- The Mystery Band takes those present to the Midnight hour.
11 p.m. -- Drawing for quilt.
Stay After Midnight with Mr. Zah.
In the early hours of the morning people will be present, because "Cancer Never Sleeps."
Relay teams will provide games and entertainment.
5 a.m. -- Clean-up begins. Those spending the night will be in a drawing for $100 cash and everyone will get a gift of appreciation.
6 a.m. -- Relay for Life participants will go home, but remember, "There is no finish line until we find a cure."
