Two Thayer High School golfers, Blake Allen and Lance Schneider, will join the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzly club golf team for the 2009-10 season.
Both recently signed university documents indicating their intentions to attend Missouri State-West Plains and play for the team, Grizzly Head Coach Phil Wade said.
"Both are great students and good golfers, and they've been part of the winning athletic programs at Thayer," Wade said. "Blake has a good short game and can keep the ball in play. Lance hits the ball very far. He has a great tee shot. I'm looking forward to having both of them on the team this year."
Allen, a three-time all-district honoree, shot a 43 average for nine holes this season and tied for 65th at the Missouri Class 1A State Golf Championship last week at the Twin Oaks Country Club in Springfield, Thayer Golf Coach Cliff Hawkins said.
"His short game is very good, and he's an outstanding putter," Hawkins said. "But even more than that, he's a great kid. You won't find a kid with a better personality. He's big on team and will help keep everyone focused."
Schneider, Hawkins added, "is one of the best athletes to ever come through Thayer High School. He earned All-State honors in football and basketball, he lettered in every sport he played, and he was an All-District honoree in golf for three years. In addition, he's the salutatorian of this year's class."
Schneider shot an average 44 for nine holes this season and tied for 71st at the Class 1A golf championship.
"I think both Blake and Lance will be an asset to the Grizzly team," Hawkins added.
Allen and Schneider will join J.W. Blevins of Salem, Ark., on this year's team.
