Legends Tour set to return

Thursday, June 4, 2009

The Legends Tour, the official senior tour of the LPGA, will make a return appearance at The Course on Turkey Mountain in Horseshoe Bend on Sept 26 and 27.

Last year was the first year for The Legends Tour to stop in Horseshoe Bend and the event raised over $13,000 for Arkansas Children's Hospital.

This year, 20 Legends will again tee-up for a charity pro-am.

Scheduled to compete this year are golfing legends: Jan Stephenson, Elaine Crosby, Sandra Haynie, Pat Bradley, Cindy Rarick, Cindy Miller, Jane Blalock, Rosie Jones, Kathy Whitworth, Lori West and many more Hall of Fame inductees.

Arkansas Children's Hospital is once again the benefactor to this exciting addition to the north central Arkansas community.

In addition to the pro-am, a community clinic will be held at the course showcasing the swings of various Legends Tour professionals.

Legends Tour President and former LPGA standout Jane Blalock sees the Horseshoe Bend community as a good fit for a pro-am that will grow into a full field tournament stop in subsequent years.

"We have a fan base in that region who would enjoy the opportunity to see Legends of the LPGA come through and tackle their local course," said Blalock. "We are encouraged by the commitment of local supporters and excited to build and grow a viable event in their neck of the woods."

The Legends Pro-Am will be the culminating event of a community weekend in Horseshoe Bend. Activities designed for families and area residents will fill the last weekend of September with the Legends Pro-Am finale on Sunday. Community members have a unique opportunity to show their support of The Legends Tour and their community all weekend long.

The Legends Tour began in 2000 by LPGA professionals to showcase the talents of some of the greatest women's golfers of all time. The Legends Tour has over 100 members, including nine LPGA and World Golf Hall of Fame members. Legends Tour players have a combined 600 LPGA Tour victories, including 55 major championships. In its seven seasons, The Legends Tour has awarded more than $6 million in prize money and donated more than $3 million to charity.
