The Cherokee Village Police Department has announced the promotion of David R. "Richy" Thatcher to the rank of Sergeant
Thatcher, has assumed the position of sergeant following Ricky Crook's promotion to chief after former Cherokee Village Police Chief Jason French's resignation.
Thatcher is the son of David and Joyce Thatcher of Alicia. Thatcher is a Walnut Ridge native and a 1987 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School.
He graduated from Black River Technical College ALETA Police Academy in 2004.
Prior to being employed by the Cherokee Village Police Department in January of 2009, Thatcher worked as a patrolman for five years at Black Rock and Hoxie Police Departments.
He has also worked as a 9-1-1 operator and dispatcher with the Lawrence County Communication Center where he still works part-time.
In addition to being a certified officer, Thatcher is a certified first responder, a Community Emergency Response Team Trainer (CERT) and a emergency vehicle operator instructor.
"Thatcher's credentials will assist him in serving residents of Cherokee Village," a spokesman said.

I think it is about time to have someone outside of city to come in and investigate why the MAYOR will not let the chief promote within.
