Royals' Hall of Famers to instruct clinic

Thursday, June 25, 2009

A group of Kansas City Royals alumni will conduct a baseball clinic for area boys and girls June 27 from 9 a.m. until noon at Bill Virdon Field in West Plains.

Royals' Hall of Famers John Mayberry and Dennis Leonard will be joined by Les Norman and one or two other former Royals to provide instruction for kids 8- to 18-years-old.

These former major leaguers conduct these popular and successful clinics across an eight-state region during the summer months to pass along their knowledge and love of baseball.

Parents and coaches are encouraged to join the kids. Mayberry was a two-time American League All-Star who hit 255 home runs in a 17-year major league career.

Leonard is the Royals' only three-time 20-game winner during a 12-year career that was cut short by injuries.

Norman also saw a promising career cut short by injuries after just two years and now owns a successful baseball school in Kansas City.

The public is also invited to this camp.
