What a difference a week makes.
After soundly beating Jonesboro the previous week, the Spring River senior softballers met the same team on July 9 at the Ash Flat Ball Park.
Spring River was surprised at the offensive show Jonesboro put together, and at the end of the game, the scoreboard read: Jonesboro 17, Spring River 11.
Trumann was next, and as usual when these two teams play each other, it was close. This game was no exception.
The lead changed several times, but in this game the Sharp County gang outlasted Truman 16-12.
On offense Dave Keylor (four-for-four, one homer) and Rick Comer continued to swing hot bats. Gary Bacon and Bill Stuart had a couple of hits each.
On defense, "Scrap" LaFaye continued to amaze everyone with his defensive play.
The Rat Patrol in the outfield consisting of Dave Keylor, Rick Comer, Joe "Crazy Legs" Bonds, Grouchy" Thompson and Dennis "Not a Menace" Brake, do great at stopping rallies.
Summing up the game, the Sharp County gang was not as sharp as usual.
The highlight of the afternoon was "Scrappy" hitting a ground ball and was safe at first on a bad throw. He darted for second base, but his fuel tank ran low and he was thrown out at second. Herb Hess pitched both games.
