Three local officers received official commendations from the Arkansas State Police recently.
Cpl. Ronnie Stewart, of Mammoth Spring, with Troop I of the Arkansas Highway Patrol, was recognized for his successful efforts to remove a handgun from an individual parked alongside a local highway and threatening suicide.
Cpl. Wendall Jines, of Cherokee Village, with the Criminal Investigation Division, Company F, received a commendation for his tenacity and use of skillful investigative resources which ultimately led to an arrest in connection with 18 fires intentionally set in Randolph County beginning in 2007 and continuing through 2008.
Cpl. Todd Shaw, of Melbourne, with the Izard County Sheriff's Department is credited with the planning and execution of a multi-law enforcement agency raid on a 40-acre marijuana growing operation where more than 8,000 plants were seized and six arrests occurred.
All officers receiving commendations and medals were honored in ceremonies at their prospective locations.
