The Aug. 6 trip to Jonesboro was rather frustrating for the Spring River senior softballers. In game one against Jonesboro, a lot of runs were scored. Rick Comer homered twice, and "Scrappy" collected three hits. However, the much-improved Jonesboro bunch came back swinging the bats to outlast Spring River 19-17.
Game two against the team from Trumann was once again close. In this game, the offense sputtered and mistakes on defense allowed Trumann to win 11-10.
On offense, Rick Comer homered twice and collected several hits. Dave Keylor continues to swing a mean bat and "Scrappy" Mangrum got three hits in the first game.
The defense had some downs, but played well enough to keep the games close. There were some mistakes on defense and on offense, scoring opportunities were not taken advantage of. Spring River could have won both of these games.
Joe Bonds pitched both games.
