Spring River drops close game

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

The Spring River senior softballers made a trip to Jonesboro Aug. 13 and split a pair of games on the diamond.

In game one against Jonesboro, the hitting was in place and Spring River scored early and often.

Pat LaFaye smacked one out of the park and Rick Comer, Herb Hess and Joe Bonds collected several hits apiece in Spring River's big 19-7 victory.

In the Trumann game, it was once again a see-saw battle with the lead changing almost every inning.

Going into the seventh inning, Trumann had a five-run lead.

Spring River scored four runs in the frame, but with two on and two out, a groundout ended the game with Trumann outlasting Spring River 21-20.

The fans sure got a ton of enjoyment out of this one and they could be overheard commenting on just what a good ballgame it was.

Dan Hendrington blasted one over the left field fence, while Hess continued to hit the ball well.

As a matter of fact, the whole team hit well in this game against Trumann.

Herb Hess pitched both games and stopped several line drives back to the pitchers' mound for Spring River.
