Izard County's Preston Harmon shot a 116 over 27 holes to earn medalist honors at the annual Southerner Invitational Golf Tournament Aug. 21 at Tannenbaum Golf Course in Drasco.
The Cougars came in second place in the seven-team event, finishing with a team score of 380.
Host Batesville Southside carded a 376 to win their tourney for the first time.
Heber Springs finished third (381) and was followed by Riverview (410), Shirley (420), Salem (435) and Concord (458).
Harmon trailed Riverview's Jordan Perry and Southside's Clayton House by three strokes after nine holes.
Both Perry and House shot an even-par 36 while Harmon shot a three-over 39.
The afternoon session started with the final 18 holes, beginning on the back nine, and Harmon shot a four-over 40, while Perry remained in control, shooting another 36.
House dropped a couple to Perry as he shot a 38.
The last nine holes of the day belonged to Harmon as Perry and House both struggled.
However, Harmon remained steady and his only blemish on the final nine came on a bogey on hole 6, and he posted a one-over 37 over the final nine holes.
House and Perry tied for runner-up after House recorded a 44 and Perry a 46 over their last nine holes.
Salem's Matt Twilley finished in fifth place, while Uriah Mead of Izard County came in seventh.
Caleb Cowan ended the day with a 138 for the Cougars, with Zack Logan firing a 207.
Ryan Rich turned in a 151 for Salem, while Beau McBride had a 159 and Jesse Romine a 187.
Kiley Mettler carded a 42 at Tannenbaum Golf Course in Drasco Aug. 17, earning medalist honors for the Izard County Lady Cougars in a nine-hole golf match.
Izard County won the team competition with a score of 139, while Salem followed with a 175.
Rachel Harmon shot a 44 for the Lady Cougs and Kristen Doty finished with a 53.
Abby Blevins paced Salem with a 55 on the day. Sammi Massey finished with a 59 for the Lady Hounds, while Sara Henley recorded a 61 and Melanie Jewell a 64.
In boys' competition, Preston Harmon finished with a 38, grabbing medalist honors.
The Cougars tied for first place in the team standings with West Side Greers Ferry.
Both schools shot a 135. Salem ended the day with a 143.
Uriah Mead shot a 44 for the Cougars, with Caleb Blevins and Zack Logan shooting a 53 apiece.
Ryan Rich carded a 47 for the Greyhounds, while Matt Twilley and Beau McBride ended the day with a 48 each for Salem.
