The premiere "Late Summer T-Bucket Cruise and Car Show" is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Salem Court House square.
"We are inviting all the local clubs to join us," said Holly Pate, president of Salem Chamber of Commerce. Fifteen to 20 T-Buckets, a style of hot rod cars based on the Ford Model T, will cruise from Mountain Home to Salem to join local antique car owners for the event in Salem.
The T-Bucket generally features a large V8 engine with powerful drive trains and large rear tires. The much smaller front tires and T-shaped body created a genre of hot rods, circa 1950s, according to the Chamber press release.
Locals are encouraged to come out and see the cars. Car show participants will participate in a give-away for two $100 gift cards. The Cruise and Car Show is the first time that Salem has coupled with the T-Buckets to produce a Salem car show event.
"If it goes over well we hope to make it an annual event," Pate said. Salem Chamber of Commerce will continue to promote antique car shows as a means of recreation and entertainment for the Salem area, she said.
