Fall Festival plans underway

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The Thayer Chamber of Commerce met Sept. 2 at the Country Cottage. Among the issues discussed was the Thayer Fall Festival.

There are two confirmed booths for the festival according to Caboose manager, Caroline Sutherland. The Bobcat Booster Club will be purchasing space for 12 booths. Because the club is getting so much booth space, the chamber decided to give the Booster Club a discount off the price of the booth space. The regular price for booth space is $20. Those who are interested in booth space can call Sutherland at the Caboose at 264-7324.

According to those who are giving out talent contest entry forms at their businesses, there have not been many people show up to get forms. Chamber member Bob Eckman said he believes interest in the talent contest will not occur until the last minute.

A drawing for a rifle is also supposed to occur at the festivities. More information about the drawing will come out at a later date.

The chamber decided to meet Sept. 23 at the Bank of Thayer to finalize planning for the Fall Festival. The festival is to be held Sept. 26.

Representatives from the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce were also at the meeting. Glynda Pryor, the Mammoth Spring Chamber of Commerce president, and Rose Pierce came to the meeting to discuss a joint effort between the Thayer and Mammoth Spring Chambers to develop a Thayer and Mammoth business phone directory of legitimate area businesses. Pierce said they are going to try to have the directory out by spring of next year. The Thayer Chamber agreed to help in the project.

Pryor was also there to discuss the Holiday House Tours Dec. 6. She said they already have three houses to tour in Mammoth Spring and two houses in Thayer. "We need one more from Thayer," Pryor said.

Thayer Chamber President Dr. Scott Ream said he will send out a mass e-mail to members to advertise for a potential house to tour in the Thayer area.

The next regular Thayer Chamber of Commerce meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7 at noon. The location of the meeting has yet to be announced
