Head-on collision yields serious injuries

The four lane at Highland near St. Michael's Catholic Church was the site of a head-on collision on Sept. 6 that resulted in serious injuries to a local boy and moderate injuries to an area man.

The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. when the 2002 Saab driven by Bradley L. Smith, 18, of Highland crossed four lanes of traffic and hit the 2008 Honda Pilot driven by Waldo H. Buesher, 75, of Cherokee Village.

Smith was driving in the outside eastbound lane near St. Michael's Catholic Church and crossed the lanes hitting Buesher head on in the outside lane.

According to a report obtained from the Highland Police Department, Smith's vehicle then rolled two times.

Smith was air lifted by Air Evac to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Buesher was taken by Spring River Ambulance Service to the Fulton County Hospital in Salem.

At press time, Smith remains in critical condition in a Springfield hospital.
