"I love working with Erin. She's family, and we get along great. It's makes things really easy," said Barnett.
Barnett said she's always wanted to be a beautician, and she enjoys not only the work but the people she meets too.
"We have several customers who have been with us from the start, and we have lots and lots of walk-ins," said Barnett. "Every day is a completely different day; no two days are the same, and I really like that part of it."
Barnett was born and raised in Salem, and her family, the Henry's, can trace their beginnings in Fulton County back to 1872.
Her two children attend Salem schools, and her husband, Travis, is on the board for the summer baseball league.
"I love the small town atmosphere," said Barnett. "I just like that everybody knows everybody; it's a great place for raising a family."
Expressions is a full service salon, featuring haircuts and styling, perms, coloring, weaves, waxes and they have a 12-minute tanning bed equipped with Wolf lamps.
"A lot of people come in on their lunch hour to tan," said Barnett.
And what's her favorite thing to do at the shop?
I like all of it, but doing highlights and colors is my favorite," said Barnett. "We have some teenage customers who come in and get crazy color highlights every couple of weeks. Blue, green -- it's always a bright color. It's as fun for us to do it as it is for them to wear it, I think."
In the future, Barnett would like to add a nail technician to the salon, to round out her services. She also offers evening appointments in the summer for people who don't have time during the work day to come in.
So, the next time a hair cut is in order, or the desire for bright highlights hits, stop by Expressions by Dena and let Dena and Erin brighten your day and your look.
