Despite the disappointment, numerous area citizens' showed up for the event. Cathy Drew, executive director of the Ozark Gateway Tourist Council was present for the event that was originally scheduled for Sept. 18 in Dr. Thompson Park in Hardy. The event was hosted by the Main Street Hardy organization. Donna Cruse, president and Kim Wilson, executive director of the organization, along with Beth McEntire-Bess and Jeana Moore with Hometown Radio were present for the event. Jerry Messer with Kozy Kandles in Hardy cooked hot dogs for the crowd while Moore and Sherry Groves helped hand out the lunch. Keith Boles with KAIT channel 8 also attended the event. Despite the absence of the tour bus, it was a welcome day out after the week's rainy weather.
The event will be repeated next Thursday and organizers expect another great turnout.
The bus is scheduled to arrive in downtown Hardy at 11 a.m., Sept. 24 and stay until 1 p.m. Area residents can register for prizes, receive packets and stay for hot dogs and all the trimmings which will be cooked in Dr. Thompson Park by members of the See Arkansas First tour. The tour is designed to increase awareness of tourism in the state and region and is sponsored by Main Street Hardy. Some of the prizes offered will be an ATV, a kayak, a Schwinn bicycle and a $500 camping package.
