AGFC pulls plug on fall turkey hunting season

Thursday, October 1, 2009

With the opening day less than a week away, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has voted to cancel the fall turkey hunting season over concerns that the bird population was getting too low.

The commission voted 4-3 Sept. 17 to cancel the fall season, after a few weeks of discussion.

According to AGFC officials, the spring hunting season remains in place.

A spokesman for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says that the spring season is the more popular time to hunt turkeys.
