An incident report provided by Highland Police Chief Jeremy Stevens said that while on routine patrol near Lake Miranda in Highland, officer Bryan Buchanan noticed a vehicle parked near the lake. The officer said he observed the lights off in the vehicle and the windows were fogged up. He said he approached the vehicle and a man later identified as Dexter Inman came to the front seat from the back of the van. Inman, who was wearing only a pair of jeans, advised the officer that he was not alone in the vehicle.
Buchanan said he saw a female laying in a fetal position in the back of the van wearing only a pair of boxers and a shirt.
The female failed to provide identification to the officer, and gave several different names and ages. She was finally identified after Buchanan asked the two to drive to Inman's home on Diane Street in Ash Flat as he followed in his patrol car. Inman told the officer that the two were brother and sister.
They were then taken to the Sharp County Jail for questioning. On the way to jail, Inman advised the officer he and the female were having sex when he pulled up and that they had been dating and he believed her to be 16.
At the jail Inman gave police a written statement admitting to having sex with the girl.
The female was taken to the Fulton County Hospital by her mother to have a rape kit administered.
While at the hospital, Highland Police Chief Jeremy Stevens questioned the girl, who gave him a written statement detailing the events that led to the rape. She also told authorities that on the way to his parent's house to verify her identify Inman had called his mother and asked her to vouch for him.
Inman was charged with raping the 14-year-old girl. His bond was set at $100,000. Inman is currently out on bond awaiting an Oct. 29 court date.
