News basket added for convenience

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

Alton residents now have a place nearby to leave news items for The South Missourian News.

A basket marked specifically for the newspaper is at the Oregon County Courthouse in the hallway by the newspaper rack.

This news item basket is for the convenience of Alton residents and those in Oregon County who do not wish to spend time and gas money to travel to the Thayer office to leave their news items. The news basket is also so The South Missourian News can better serve Alton and surrounding areas.

Items in the basket will be picked up every Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to be published the following week.

News items include, birth or wedding announcements, any club or group events, meeting minutes, area activities, special announcements and anything of a newsworthy nature.

If items include pictures, please paperclip or put them in an envelope along with the news item with a description of the picture. If one wishes to get their photos back, leave a note on the back of the picture. Pictures can be picked up at the Thayer office at 109 Chestnut Street at least a week after they are published. They will not be mailed back to the submitter.

Please leave contact information with all news items including name, phone number and address.

If there is a future news item that needs to be covered by a reporter or photographer, please let us know by putting the news item in the basket with contact information or by calling the Thayer office at 264-3085.

Please do not put advertisement requests in the basket. All customers who want to place an ad in one or more of our publications should contact their sales representative or call 1-800-995-3209 or any one of our offices in Salem, Highland or Thayer.
